Uranium Glass Flapper Set (Trade Option See Description)

$375.00 USD / On Sale

This set is also available for trade of finished products with other artists. Must be trading for items with minimum value of $300. Serious inquiries only.

This set is inspired by the flapper era. I’m so proud of it. The necklace can be taken apart to be just one long strand. There are two sections of yellow beads that are one bead longer than the others, to allow the strand to be woven into a functional necklace. When apart, it can be worn like a scarf, tied in a knot, etc. like a true flapper piece. Other than two beads in the head piece, and four on the necklace, the glass beads are all vintage uranium glass beads no longer in production.

There are 780 glass beads in this set.

The head piece is made of 273 uranium glass beads, of which 272 are vintage. One uranium bead is modern. There is one modern cathedral glass bead on the head piece, that is not uranium.

The necklace is made of 504 uranium glass beads, of which 502 are vintage. There are four modern uranium glass beads. There are two modern cathedral glass beads on the necklace, that are not uranium.

Necklace measures an astonishing 48 inches long from end to end.

Head piece is best suited for head circumference sizes between 20-24 inches.

Set comes gift wrapped, in a faux leather box, with a UV keychain light. Free shipping to the US and Canada.

**Uranium glass contains minute amounts of uranium dioxide, and glows under UV black light. Uranium glass level of radioactivity varies by piece, ranging from less than 1 percent to up to 25 percent by weight, but there is no recognized danger to handling or using uranium glass, according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Uranium glass beads are even further diluted than the glass in glassware, as it is mixed with other glass to make the beads. Under 50CPM is normal levels of background radiation. Under 100CPM is not thought to have any health effects. Outside air in the United States of America averages around 25CPM. I check all my pieces with a geiger meter to make sure they clock in at safe levels.**
